ASEAN Connect 2017

ASEAN Connect: One Framework, One Network, One Asean

September 21-22, 2017

Century Park Hotel, Manila

The Philippine Commission on Higher Education mandates various academic institutions to engage in extension activities as part of its core function. Cognizant to this requirement is the implementation of extension programs in higher education institutions which provide the space to discover practical, evidence and science-based answers that can address real-world social, economic and environmental challenges of partner citizens and communities (CMO No. 52).

The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) as a prime mover and implementer of systematic transfer of technology, innovation and information to its partner communities which aims to seek solutions to specific developmental concerns as evident on its extension program. Furthermore, the University as mass-oriented institution of higher learning and is also known as the “Peoples” University is committed to bridge timely and relevant projects that aims to champion advocacies that promote and advances in Food Production and Security, Environment, Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change and Energy, Promotion of Science and Technology and Education for STEAM.

By holding this year’s forum aptly ASEANConnect 2017: International Forum on Extension in Higher Education with the theme: One ASEAN, One Framework, One Network slated on September 21-22, 2017 at the Century Park Hotel, Manila, Philippines, the University is committed to steward the responsibility of bringing together extension modalities and best practices not only in the Philippines but also in the ASEAN region leading to the crafting of ASEAN Extension Framework complementing and harmonizing pathways to equity, relevance and advancement in extension in Philippine higher education (CMO No. 52). Furthermore, the forum will be used as an avenue to form an ASEAN network of extension implementers in higher education that will bridge the gaps of extension program implementation in the region. The Network will serve as pool of experts that will provide ideas and information based on practical, evidence and science-based answers to address real-world social, economic and environmental challenges.

The activity aims to provide a platform for faculty members, extension workers and community-volunteers in academic and civic organizations across ASEAN and in other international communities discuss relevant issues on community extension works. This event will be participated in by school administrators, faculty members, Graduate students, non-governmental organization and renowned national and international policy makers as guest speakers.
